Welcome to the blog-site of IDRights: Human Rights and People with Intellectual Disabilities.
Who are we?
IDRights is a group of people who are working to link together human rights activities in Ireland and to make a new human rights activity that will include many people with intellectual disabilities in Ireland.
What do we want?
We want:
- To meet and talk with people with intellectual disabilities, so that they can be more part of human rights projects and work.
- To meet, talk and build relationships with other groups, agencies and organisations.
- To advise and watch the growing of human rights education and training. This will raise awareness of their human rights for people with intellectual disabilities, service providers and the general public.
- To plan and host activities and events to raise awareness about human rights for people with intellectual disabilities.
l think its a great idea to help people with ids voices to be heard.l agree that this group of people have the same rigths as everybody else.Hence, human rights education will help raise awareness.
Thanks Ruvimbo. One of the starting points is for us, as professionals working with people who have intellectual disabilities, to start to listen and really hear what they are saying. This may need up to change our way of listening as our experience in service can often be within a context of work, business, noise etc. We need to listen in different ways. That demands each of us to commit to change.
